My Fonera is officially turned off

Will I turn it back on, probably, but for now it is off. It seems that the start of every school year I get a new leech that takes advantages of free trials. I thought this year would be different, but it wasn't. Then all of a sudden, the same person taking advantage of the free trials suddenly bought two day passes. So I tried to contact them, no response. Now, I'm having people connect to my Fon Spot just to take advantage of unlimited access to Google services. Great Idea Fon, too bad people don't have to authenticate to do this.

In the mean time, to be continued...

  1. This is sad... But I would like to ask, do you feel there is a solution to this? What would encourage you to power your Fon hotspot back on?

  2. I don't like the idea that anyone can connect to my Fon spot, get free unlimited access to Google, and not have to authenticate.

I don't mind the 15 minute free trials, but the same aliens repeatedly take advantage of free trials on a daily basis.

I support Fon (and my router will only be off for a week), and this whole deal gave me some good ideas ;)

  3. google invested in FON, so in exchange, access for all Google services is free. Thats the principle.

  4. Foneros invested in Fon, so in exchange, Fon should avoid doing things which the Foneros do not want. Things like circumventing the allready-poor profitsharing mechanism, and selling their hotspots, via "partnerships", to other ISPs.

  5. As a Fonero (Linus/Bill), I invested in Fon also.
